Alecis was walking down one of the many dirt roads that filled Annerb's Island. It was empty except for her and Rheis, who was walking next to her. He was in a much better mood than he had been lately, mostly because he was glad that Alecis was leaving Cuir. After she had found out about Rowan's baby she had sort of gone into shock, something that had made both of them pretty useless. It was a few weeks later now and she had almost gotten over it.

Alecis stared out into the field that ran next to her country road. It was filled with sheep, all of them grazing. They looked peaceful; Rheis had been right when he chose this island as the place for their walk. It was nice, not having to think or worry about anything. "You know," Alecis said to the dæmon at her feet, "Maybe it's good that Rowan's having a baby. Lumi had said that he was happy now. It's pulling him back together."

Rheis nodded in agreement. Even though he hated the guy, he was strangely happy that he was feeling better. He was glad that Rowan was out of his rut, and even happier that Alecis was feeling a little better too. She was still hurting, of course, but she could see that maybe things didn't have to be so terrible. She just wanted to best for Rowan, and right now it looked like he was doing okay.

Up until now Lumi had been completely unaware that there was an Annerb Island. She'd never heard of it before. It was as if it had just appeared out of nowhere to her. She decided to check it out; she seriously needed a change of scenery.

She was glad to find it was a peaceful, farm-y place where she didn't feel like she had to constantly look over her shoulder. She was walking along a dirt path that thankfully didn't remind her of Theodore Lane because it wasn't surrounded by a creepy forest.

Up ahead she saw someone coming from the opposite direction. Oh, it was that Alecis girl. The one who took her pants off in Casa Nova's. "Hey," she greeted her as they got closer to each other. "Alecis, right?"

Alecis looked up, surprised that another clio would be out in the middle of no where. "Yeah," she said smiling, it was Lumi, Rowan's ex-adviser. "It's good to see you again, Lumi."

As she spoke, a pair of birds flew overhead, twittering. Alecis looked up at them as they spiraled in the air.

Rheis walked over to Moxie, "What brings you two out here?" he asked her.

Moxie did this weird little movement that was the cat-equivalent of a shrug and looked up at Lumi. "Needed a change of scenery," Lumi told Alecis and her daemon. "I figured I'd take a break from the sideshow that is my life and come here. I've never been before. It's kinda nice." She gave half a smile. "What about you guys?"

Alecis smiled, "Pretty much the exact same reason. It's working well for us, what about you two?" Alecis wondered what problems Lumi could be going through, but was polite enough not to ask.

"Well enough for now," Lumi shrugged, sighing. "Enough that I don't want to go back home." Well, she supposed things could be worse. She was pretty sure she had sort of, maybe, kind of, possibly fixed things with Quinn? She thought? She hadn't seen him since she left that note at his house. "But you must be here to get away from all that Overloridian stress, huh?"

That and more. "Basically, yeah," Alecis sighed as she spoke," really there's a lot to do. And there hasn't been a meeting between us in so long, it's difficult to keep up with what's going on in the other Eilemaiden countries, you know?" Alecis assumed she would, she had been an Overloridian's adviser.

"But hey, it comes with the job, right? Though we really should start them up again, in my opinion. But a lot of the other's thought it wasn't nessicary anymore."

"I think you should," Lumi replied. She wasn't gonna lie, the Overloridians needed as much help as they could get, especially from each other. "No offense, but I've seen some of you guys fall apart more than once. It's pretty bad. You should help each other out more.

"Though I guess you already know that. You helped Rowan, didn't you, that night he stayed at Cuir or something?"

She had been really curious as to what exactly happened that night.

Alecis winced, remembering Rowan in that way was painful.

"Er, yeah. I did," she said slowly, then picked up in speed, "I'm sorry, by the way, if you felt I was interfering or anything, I wasn't trying to. I just..." she stopped for a moment and then tried again, softer, "I couldn't leave him there, you know?"

Rheis panicked, seeing Alecis lose her cool. They had been doing so well! "But he's better now, and that's all that matters!" he piped in, hoping Leci would hear the truth in his words and forget about the past.

"Oh no, it's fine!" Lumi exclaimed, since Alecis suddenly seemed distressed. "I totally understand. In fact I'm glad you did it." Lumi really did understand all too well what it was like to see someone she loved try to destroy themselves. Her expression filled with empathy. "It must have been rough. You really care about him, don't you?"

Alecis nodded weakly, looking at the pity that adorned Lumi's face. It was almost unbearable. "But I'm glad he's happy now, that's all I really wanted for him. Just to be happy and well," she tried to pull herself back together, to regain her composure.

"And it looks like he has that, what with having Charlie" she winced as she said her name, "and the baby, both."

Lumi narrowed her eyes in that way she does when she's unhappy with someone. "Ugh, Charlie," she said disdainfully. "I can't stand that girl. I'm not gonna lie, I'll be happy when they break up for good." She paused, and looked at Alecis's face closely. Whatever she said, she didn't look glad that Rowan was with Charlie. She almost mentioned this but thought it might be a little too personal.

Alecis looked up, Lumi didn't like Charlie? Why?

"Do you mind if I asked why?" Alecis asked her, it didn't make sense. Charlie was so fun and innocent. Almost everyone loved her.

"Uh, she cheated on my best friend," Lumi said in a 'duh' tone of voice. Though obviously that wasn't the entire reason; Lumi didn't like Charlie before that. "She's so immature and conceited. She only cares about herself. I just think Rowan deserves better, you know? But whatever. His choice I guess." She shrugged.

Alecis furrowed her brow. Lumi of course, was kinda right. Charlie was a little immature, but she was only sixteen. Alecis knew she was nice, even if she had made some very, very wrong choices.

"Do you think they'll stay together?" Alecis asked, trying to seem nonchalant. She thought they would, even though the two were an unlikely match, but she just couldn't let her own love die. She would never have cheated on him.

Lumi contemplated. "...Nah," she said finally. "They're too different. They want different things. Rowan is after something serious, and Charlie just wants to have fun." She frowned. She knew it wouldn't end well between them. Just like the first time it ended.

"Yeah," Alecis said, not believing herself even though she wanted too. Lumi was right, they were different, but that was what pulled them together. And even if they were going to break up in the future, she knew she shouldn't get her hopes up. He would never want her anyway.

"I just hope she doesn't hurt him again. I can't believe she doesn't care that he's having a baby with someone else." It hurt Alecis, how could it not hurt Charlie?

Lumi raised her eyebrows in a surprised sort of way. "Well, I," words got caught her throat, "I guess she understands that...if it were up to him, he would be having it with her and not...someone else."

She thought about her own psychospawn, and how if she could wish for anything it would be that it was part of her and Quinn rather than the result of the most terrible thing that had ever happened to her.

She quickly pushed the thought out of her head. "But anyways...yeah. I still don't think they're right for each other. But I guess it's not my decision, huh?"

Mine either. "Yeah," Alecis said, trying to figure out the pause in Lumi's answer. She shrugged it off, "Too bad it isn't. I mean, I like Charlie enough, but I think Rowan deserves better."

Like you? Rheis asked, a little mockingly.

No, just someone more mature.

Oh good, so not you, he joked back

"Hm," Lumi replied, looking at Alecis inquisitively. She seemed to care about Rowan a lot. More than the way a colleague would normally. Lumi wondered... "Er, Alecis," she said, "forgive me for asking such a personal question, but...do you like Rowan?"

That would be interesting if she did. Not that it was her business, but Lumi would prefer Rowan dating Alecis to Rowan dating Charlie any day.

"Er, uh, no, I mean--why would you ask? I uh, that would be wrong. He's dating Charlie."

Smooth, Rheis taunted. Just give it up, it isn't like he doesn't know already.

"Well, actually... Yeah, I kinda do..."

She was so lame.

"It was kind of obvious," Lumi said apologetically. She felt a little bad for making Alecis say it. "I mean, I don't blame you. He's a good guy." She looked around nonchalantly. "You two would be cute together." HINT HINT MISS ALECIS.

"He is," Alecis agreed, "one of the best." But as Lumi continued, Alecis found herself blushing slightly, "Yeah right. Rowan would never date me." She shrugged, though she wished it was possible.

"You don't know that for sure," Lumi insisted. She didn't want Alecis to give up. She seemed like such a nice person. Alecis could be good for Rowan. "No reason to be pessimistic. I mean, you never know." She shrugged. "Love is the most unpredictable thing in the world."

"Yeah, but..." she didn't want to get her hopes up. "It just seems wrong, you know? Trying to take him from Charlie, I mean."

You just said she wasn't good enough for him, Rheis pointed out, then after noticing what he had said, his eyes widened.

With one eyebrow raised she looked at the fox, Thought you didn't want me to like him.

"It would be nice though." It would be more than nice. It was all she wanted.
